A frame is to a picture as a haircut is to a face.
It should be both a compliment and complement.

Naturally, the painting happens first, but even greater success can be finalized with the proper choice of framing. Frames have at times been as good a sign of authenticity as an artist's own signature.
During my hunt to locate THE Linda frame, my dad started to bring me testers he made himself. He is a fabulous "picker" with an eye for the unusual and thinks outside-the-box when it comes to application. His frames were genius contrived out of anything from a screen door to a pulley window. Planks were not routered, mitered or joined, but crudely carved out and hand scored. Glass had to be hand cut too because of the asymmetric measurements. People loved them.
Since then we have together formed an extensive collection of unusual old wood framing materials in layered variegated stages of age and paint that is cracking, chipping and/or peeling. The completion process is more standard now but the individuality and imperfection markers remain intact.
