“Rock Pile” painted plein air 11/07
|

 |
En Plein Air is a French expression which means "in the open air".
Artists have long painted outdoors working in natural light especially after the introduction of
paints in tubes. Following came the "Box Easel", typically known as the French Box Easel invented
to be portable with telescopic legs, built-in box and palette, and ability to be folded down to the
size of a briefcase. This made for portable art excursions to the ocean, forest and countryside.
As a watercolorist my treks include a lightweight plastic folding chair, two small
TV trays, a giant plastic water thermos full of water, tool bag, palette, various
watercolor papers on lightweight boards and food.
It has become a very busy and fulfilling endeavor to make my watercolor
interpretations become a permanent part of the artful records being kept to
remember natural and historic scenes during this lifetime. Current memberships
